We are proudly sponsoring this years Bluntisham Beer Festival, which will be held on the 17th and 18th June. It has been asked ‘why would a gym sponsor a beer festival, when we all know that drinking alcohol is bad for you’.
Well, we believe that life is all about balance. We don’t believe in very restrictive diets, magic weight loss aids or indeed ‘achieve your dream body in 4 weeks’ workout programmes. Often, as soon as you finish the fad diet and return to ‘normal eating’, the weight you lost, returns. Living a healthy lifestyle is just that, a lifestyle. Diet and exercise should be something that becomes a routine, something that you can follow permanently, not just for a few weeks. If you cut out everything that you like, you will start to resent your diet plan and your motivation will suffer.
Drinking alcohol occasionally is unlikely to have too much of a detrimental effect on your fitness. Indeed, socializing with friends and family may well improve your mental health. But what is a ‘sensible amount’? The NHS recommends that ‘men and women are advised not to drink more than 14 units a week on a regular basis’. Also, remember that alcohol contains calories, ensure that you take these into account when you monitor your calorie intake. A large, 250ml glass of 13% red wine can contain as many as 228 calories, that’s more than a jam doughnut! It’s also 3.25 units of the recommended 14.
Just remember, life is about balance, everything in moderation.
We’ll see you at the beer festival!
